Oliver Josiah Maponga has more than 25 years of experience in mining geology and exploration. He joined the Anglo American Corporation (AAC) in U.K. as a Graduate Geologist soon after graduating there in 1980. He was subsequently transferred to the Anglo American Corporation Group in Zimbabwe in the same year and was seconded to Prospecting Ventures (Anglo’s Exploration Division) as an Exploration Geologist.
In 1982 Oliver was transferred to the Bindura Nickel Corporation (an Anglo Group company) where he worked as a Mine Geologist and progressed through the ranks of Staff Geologist and Senior Geologist (AAC ranks).
Oliver Josiah Maponga was subsequently transferred to Hwange Colliery Company Limited (then an AAC group company) in 1986 and worked as Resident Geologist before being promoted to the Post of Chief Geologist when AAC relinquished its management responsibilities of Hwange Colliery in 1989. In 2004 he was promoted Exploration and Technical Services Manager and now he is the Strategy and Business Development Manager.
Oliver holds a Bachelor of Science (Combined Honours) degree in Geology and Biology, and Master of Science degree in Geology. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in General Management from the University of Zimbabwe. Mr. Maponga is currently studying for a doctorate in Geology
Mr Maponga is married to Takaendesa and the couple was blessed with three children: two girls and one boy. Until recently Oliver was a keen Squash and Social Soccer Player, and enjoys gardening.
